Greetings!
I’m Brayden “Bray” Hughes, a graduating senior earning his Bachelor’s in Hospitality Management from The Ohio State University. I started my hospitality journey in the restaurant industry, then worked briefly in catering before moving into hotels, where I’ve been for several years. Currently, I am interning within the sales department of Embassy Suites by Hilton Columbus-Dublin while working a new work-from-home job in the AI field.
The hospitality industry has taught me many valuable skills I have developed over the years. Restaurants taught me to come out of my shell and form initial connections with guests. They also taught me how to pay attention to and verify details, helping to ensure accuracy in my work. Catering taught me how to be flexible and quick in my work, more often than not, as a situational firefighter to help ensure the smoothest events for our clientele. Hotels allowed me to develop my inter-departmental communication skills as I’ve been able to experience the front desk, housekeeping, food and beverage, and sales departments. I also learned to appreciate the proper amount of effort put in by all departments to help make a guest’s stay as pleasantly memorable as possible.
Short Term Goals
Complete my professional internship within the sales department of Embassy Suites and graduate in May with my Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management.
I will further explore my new interest and passion within the AI GPT field over the next year by taking online courses and experimenting with the available and new technologies.
I will continue to develop my time-management skills by working independently in my professional and personal life to maximize the fulfillment of each day.
Areas of Improvement
Time Management – By working independently and breaking down large projects into more manageable chunks
Catering to Every Demand or Request, Regardless of Personal Capacity – By setting firmer boundaries both personally and professionally while being conscious of my workload and asking for help when necessary
Heightened Sensitivity to How Others Perceive Me – By improving my internal validation, my stature will improve, thus making teammates and clientele more confident in me
Long Term Goals
Over the next two years, I will continue developing my skills and knowledge within the AI industry through various real-world applications and projects and analyze ways my work can be incorporated back into the hospitality industry.
Within five years, I will be leading my own team, either in hospitality, AI, or a blend of the two, and I will further develop my leadership skills through mentorship(s), readings, online courses, and other educational and developmental avenues.
By the end of the next ten years, I want to have a stable and fulfilling home and professional life, working in a blended profession that incorporates my passions for hospitality and AI.
